ADP's fourth quarter of fiscal 2026 ran from April through June 2026, and the company reported its results on July 29. In that quarter ADP extended two existing products rather than launching new platforms. In April it added an AI agent that checks Global Payroll runs for unusual changes, and in June it updated SmartCompliance to draw on HR, IT and Finance data. Separately, ADP reported a 94% year-over-year increase in fiscal 2026 in clients live on Lyric, its human capital management (HCM) platform for large enterprises. On its earnings call, management described strong outsourcing demand. Employees on processed U.S. payrolls for a same-store subset of its Employer Services clients grew 1% in the quarter, the same rate as in the third quarter.

Two releases added AI to checks clients already run

ADP's April 13 announcement added an ADP Assist agent to Payroll Variance, an existing Global Payroll feature that flags unusual pay changes before employees are paid. The agent detects inconsistencies and suggests corrections, which HR and payroll teams review and approve. It was already available to all ADP enterprise clients in more than 40 countries, while Global Payroll operates in more than 140 countries and territories. ADP said it planned to extend the agent to midmarket clients in additional territories in mid-2026.

Variance checking was already among the agent jobs ADP listed when it launched its agent family in January; April extended it to the multi-country product.

On June 3, ADP announced data and AI enhancements to SmartCompliance that connect worker and company information from HR, IT and Finance in one data model. ADP Assist flags compliance risks and opportunities at the worker level, and the platform can surface possible eligibility for tax credits and incentives tied to hiring, job roles and hours. ADP said the AI capabilities are available now to eligible clients, without defining eligibility, and support both ADP and non-ADP HCM environments. Possible eligibility is still short of a confirmed credit. ADP's annual report describes SmartCompliance's services as including employment tax, wage garnishment, I-9 management and business tax credits.

ADP's priorities held, and outsourcing demand stayed strong

ADP's annual report names three continuing strategic priorities: leading with HCM technology, providing expertise and outsourcing, and using its global scale for clients. In the fourth quarter ADP also recorded a $91.1 million charge, mostly severance, for a company-wide program it said would better align resources with those priorities and streamline its structure.

Black said on the call that demand for ADP's PEO and Employer Services outsourcing stayed strong throughout fiscal 2026 as employers sought help with growing complexity. Discussing bookings, CFO Peter Hadley said Employer Services HR outsourcing, soft at the end of fiscal 2025, rebounded in the fourth quarter and across fiscal 2026. ADP's PEO, which co-employs its clients' workers, averaged about 775,000 worksite employees in the fourth quarter, up 2% from a year earlier. These are ADP's own measures and management's descriptions; they say nothing about the outsourcing market as a whole.

Hadley also said ADP believes it captures some AI value through value-based product pricing, alongside consumption-based pricing for API calls and Marketplace agent interactions.

The Zone, its AI-assisted platform for service staff, covered 20% of the service population in March 2026, when ADP expected more than 40% by the end of fiscal 2026; by the July earnings call, it had reached 48%. Those are internal rollout figures; they do not measure the service clients receive.

Lyric grew, and AI agents became widely available

ADP's earnings presentation gave the Lyric growth rate without a client count and described growing demand for its unified global payroll, HR and time offer. On the earnings call, CEO Maria Black pointed to three fourth-quarter deals combining Lyric, ADP Global Payroll and ADP Workforce Suite, its time product, as evidence that this combined offer is working. The deals don't show what those clients used before.

ADP also widened access to its AI agents: its annual report says AI-powered HCM agents became accessible to nearly all of its more than 1.1 million clients during fiscal 2026. The earnings presentation reported more than 12 million conversations with ADP Assist agents by clients and their employees over fiscal 2026. Availability and this annual count do not show how many payroll practitioners used an agent in the quarter.

What changed from the third quarter, and what held

ADP's third quarter ended March 31, 2026, and the company discussed it on an earnings call in late April. That call already covered the January agents, a March space in ADP Marketplace for partner AI agents, and plans to scale Lyric implementations both internally and with systems integrators. The April–June quarter brought the Global Payroll agent and SmartCompliance enhancements.

U.S. pays per control, ADP's same-store employee measure for a subset of Employer Services clients from small to large, rose 1% in both the third and fourth quarters. It covers part of ADP's client base, not U.S. employment. Black said on the April call that Employer Services retention had set a third-quarter record; the full fiscal year finished flat at 92.1%, a revenue-based measure. On competition, Black told analysts in April that conditions felt normal, with no new pressure from recent entrants.

What to watch on October 28

ADP is scheduled to report its first quarter of fiscal 2027, which ended September 30, on October 28; as of October 12, 2026, those results had not been reported. When they arrive, compare them with this report's baselines: whether the Global Payroll agent reached midmarket clients as planned for mid-2026, how year-over-year growth in live Lyric clients compares with the 94% reported for fiscal 2026, whether PEO worksite employees keep rising from about 775,000, whether management still calls outsourcing demand strong, whether same-store U.S. pays per control stays near 1%, and whether ADP says how its company-wide alignment program affects client service.
